First Ever Government Committee dedicated to the Hair Industry

The Hair Council are thrilled to announce the first ever All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Hair has taken place in the House of Commons. This first meeting saw MPs from across all the main parties meeting together under the chairmanship of Shadow Minister Nia Griffiths MP. Barber John McNally MP from the SNP was elected Vice Chair and has very strong opinions on the need for professionalism throughout the hair industry.

Registrar of the Hair Council, Sally Styles, said she was “really happy that this major step towards the UK Government taking the Hair industry seriously was finally a reality”.

Sally, along with Hair Council Political Director Shirley Davis-Fox MBE and Parliamentary Lobbying specialists Connect Communications, have set up the new APPG to enable important subjects close to the heart of the UK hairdresser or barber to be discussed. Such subjects as minimum wage, apprentices and VAT will be looked at as well as the need to professionalise the whole industry through registration.

For all those hairdressers and barbers in the UK who are already registered and supporting the Hair Council, this is a major step forward and they can be proud that it was their support that helped create this new initiative. For everyone else, if you’ve ever thought about becoming registered – surely now is the time to do so.

A brief History of Sam's Barber Shop

Sam's Barber Shop has been Awarded ‘The Best Barbershop in Northern Ireland 2015’ at the Northern Ireland Hair and Beauty Awards.

We have been in business since 1987 (28 years ago). We are the only Mod Barber Shop in both North and South of Ireland. Whilst we are highly proud to claim this, we are also proud to provide more traditional top quality barbering cuts to our clients. Sam's Barber Shop has been an award winning barber shop and over the years we have excelled in giving the highest standard service and attention to every client that walks through the door.

We have been located in the same shop for over twenty eight years - just one mile from Belfast City Centre. We are a cross community barber shop, which is vital for the modern day barber shop here in Belfast, with each client coming through our doors sharing the same mutual love and interest; mod culture. However that does not mean our customers are exclusively mods or we provide our services to only mods.We pride ourselves for our traditional cuts which are provided at an exceptionally high standard.

Here at Sam's we still hold the same traditional values and principles that we held 28 years ago when we opened; to provide our client with a high quality cut whilst ensuring that they are made to feel just at home in our shop. This is fulfilled through not only all aspects of our barbering but through the relationships built, music shared and memories created. We strive to make sure that our clients are given the A-list treatment each time they step through our doors. This is why here at Sam's we do not see ourselves as a business but one large family.

This can further be observed through our longstanding location within the north Belfast community which sees a large number of local residents come through our doors. We have clients visiting us not just from Ireland but from farther afield. Through word of mouth and further relationships built outside of our shop has enabled our client list to extend outside of the community to as far as continental Europe.

In the fast paced society we live in today we at Sam's have acknowledged this and have utilised social media to our ability on a variety of platforms including Facebook and Instagram to allow us to maintain the same pace with the fast lives of our busy clients. Not only does this allow us to keep our strong relationships with the clients but also share images of cuts and encourage involvement in discussions concerning fashion, music, events and other areas of interest to them.
