Hunt for Britain’s Best Wet Shaving Barber 2016 gets under way
The 40 shortlisted barbers were revealed back in February, but the hunt for Britain’s Best Wet Shaving Barber is now well and truly under way, with regional heats of Britain’s Best Shave 2016 kicking off in Northern Ireland and Gateshead over the past week.
The early stages of the competition – run by the industry-respected British Barbers’ Association and premium men’s grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge - have seen an extremely high standard of entries so far, and it is shaping up to be another exciting year for the world of British barbering.
With further heats due to take place in Poole and London’s Covent Garden this month, the regionals will round off in April with the last event in Doncaster, when the seven highest-scoring barbers will find themselves one step closer to claiming the coveted title.
The chosen seven will go on to compete in the finals at this year’s Barber UK, where they will go head to head with 2015 champion Luigi Caterino, who will return to defend his title.
Luigi, who has since gone on to become the official barber for Rangers Football Club and an ambassador for The Bluebeards Revenge, has seen huge professional success off the back of his win last year, and is keen to hold on to his crown.
“It was a huge, huge honour to be crowned the winner of Britain’s Best Shave 2015”, he said.
“It has been truly fantastic for my career, and I’m so proud to be flying the flag for Scotland, as well as making good use of the traditional Italian barbering skills I learnt from my father back in Naples as a young boy.
“Now that I’ve got my crown, I’m in no hurry to lose it!”
The finals are set to take place at the Birmingham NEC on May 22nd, on day one of the popular Barber UK trade show, and will culminate in a dramatic face-off inside a boxing ring to decide who will be crowned Britain’s Best Wet Shaving Barber 2016.
The winner of this year’s competition will land the coveted title of Britain’s Best Wet Shaving Barber 2016, walking away with £500 worth of The Bluebeards Revenge grooming products and merchandise.
Nick Gibbens, marketing manager at The Bluebeards Revenge, said: “The level of talent in the first year of the competition was extremely high, but our 2015 entrants managed to exceed that to an impressive degree. This time around, the bar has been raised even higher, with some fresh new faces proving a real force to be reckoned with for last year’s top contenders.
“The aim of Britain’s Best Shave is to raise barbering standards across the industry as a whole, inspiring young barbers to reach the top of their game, but also enabling experienced barbers to put their skills to the test and see how far they have really come.
“Figures showed that the number of barbers performing cut-throat shaves had jumped by a whopping 50% in 2013, and the number continues to rise steadily as we see wet shaving making itsway firmly back into favour.”
