AND YET, that’s what I do and what I have done for the last 15 years.

When I started my journalistic career back in the early Nineties I had absolutely no idea that one day I would end up making a living out writing about fragrance, moisturiser and hair putty (if I had I certainly would have taken better care of my skin!) And yet, that’s what I do and what I have done for the last 15 years.
Looking back, however, my fate was sealed with my very first piece of (semi) professional writing for my college newspaper back in 1987 because, ironically, that piece was about the rise of the grooming industry. At the time, that industry was in its infancy: by 2018 it’s expected to be worth £1billion. Back then a man was considered cutting-edge if he used a moisturiser; these days he doesn’t even bat an eye at manscaping. How things have changed! And I’ve been there from the start, documenting it all.
As well as having my own blog, The Grooming Guru, I write for numerous websites and publications – from Men’s Health and Modern Barber to The Telegraph and Fashionbeans.com. I also write a regular style and grooming column for The Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine. I’ve worked with numerous brands in a consultancy capacity too, sharing the knowledge I’ve amassed about men’s grooming habits, needs and expectations.
Over the next 12 months I’ll be working with the BBA in lots of different ways and having met some of you at a networking evening in October I’m really looking forward to it.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to give you an insight into how the press and bloggers work (and how you can work with them) and bring you some interesting insights into the ever-changing, often fascinating world of male grooming.
