The association finds itself increasingly taking the lead on a raft of initiatives that will affect the industry now and into the future and we invite you to join with us

The BBA has worked directly with Habia to develop National Occupational Standards - that form the basis of all government recognised qualifications - through membership of its forums and working groups, influencing the creation of future of qualifications in line with the views of the barbering industry and the wider BBA network so that they meet employer and business needs.
Likewise, with Apprenticeship Trailblazers, the BBA is supporting the development group through its members, expertise and forums, and ensuring that proposed 'trade tests' and assessments meet the barbering industry's requirements, are truly employer-led and are relevant to businesses of all sizes.
Mike Taylor, BBA Director, said, 'It's a really exciting time for the barbering industry, and the BBA is right at the heart of all the changes. We want barbers to be involved in that, and to have their say, and the only way to achieve that is to become a free BBA member. The development of new standards and Apprenticeship Trailblazers is absolutely huge, and barbers can be there right at the center of it through the BBA'.

Any person who is self-employed, in a business partnership or owns a company needs to keep accurate records to be able to complete their tax returns at the end of the year. Keeping business records
You can keep your business records however you like but to fill in your tax return you’ll usually have to keep:
  • a balance sheet
  • a profit and loss account

No one barbershop is the same, you all provide a unique environment which is shown through your character, blood, sweat and tears, lest forgetting the financial input. It is all too easy to forget what has been spent to achieve the look of your destination experience. In view of the last point, before you renew or purchase cover for the first time, think of the following two scenarios:

  • 1. Existing Barbershop/ Men’s Grooming Emporium
  • 2. Empty Shell

If point 2 comes to mind, you know instantly what you have spent, whereas much more difficult with point 1. Under the terms of your lease you will be responsible for not only the insurance of the building you occupy but also any fixtures, fittings and tenants improvements irrespective whether you fitted out the premises. Don’t get caught out and obtain as much info as to the current shop before arranging your insurance.


If you should suffer a loss/ claim and the values to reinstate are not sufficient, under insurance (average) will apply thus reducing your settlement.


Also, why do we as insurance brokers continually question you on the construction of your roof and security of the shop? Irrespective whether the building is insured, risk factors like flat roof/s have a significant bearing on not only the insurance premium but whether cover can be provided at all. Equally, failure to adhere to Insurers’ (all not just ours) minimum standards of security (notably approved entrance/ exit door locks but more so key operated window locks) can render your insurance claim null and void! If in doubt, check your security and your insurance policy.
